She was cast as Captain Janeway in “Star Trek: Voyager” (1995). However, after a day and a half of filming the pilot, she and the producers mutually agreed that she was not a good fit for the role. Subsequently, the producers selected their second choice for the part.
According to Richard Burton’s biography, “And God Created Burton,” Bujold had an affair with him while filming “Anne of the Thousand Days” (1969). She was in a relationship with Dennis Hastings from 1977 to 2017, and they have a son, Emmanuel Claude Bujold, born in 1980.
Bujold was cast as Baroness Kessler in Roman Polanski’s “The Ninth Gate” (1999), but she had to give up the role due to illness. Her son with director Paul Almond, Matt Almond, is also an actor and director.
Bujold is related to Louis Cyr, known as the strongest person in the world, and she is of French-Canadian and a small amount of Irish descent. She was cast as Mary in “Mary, Queen of Scots” (1971) but declined the role due to its similarity to “Anne of the Thousand Days” (1969). This led to a lawsuit with Universal, resulting in a three-picture deal compromise.
